Whilst having a good old snoop on the good old internet, I stumbled across numerous forums, blogs, and and fan sites that, not just rumour that mention that; there is a lucky dip in stores across the globe.  'The lucky ones' have been fortunate enough to obtain the codenamed newer 360 console. What is known, or what is posted from what I read at present. Is that the newer Xbox 360 consoles, include better components, that not only may even eliminate the red rings of death for good (lets hope so, still pining for mine, sat in the box waiting on UPS to collect for repair) but they also include a much quieter disc drive, and uses less electricity.  This does sound promising.

If you are like me, and don't have the foggiest, to what I am talking about, the comments amongst the gaming community, and those that have the technical know-how. Project ‘Falcon’ as it’s known internally aims to reduce the size of the main console components such as CPU & GPU from the standard 90-nanometer process down to 65-nanometer. Smaller components mean less power is required to drive the console which has the benefit of producing less heat.

Still flummoxed, owners that have been fortunate enough to obtain this particular unit, have noticed that its quieter as some also have a different version disc drive which is claimed to be 50%
quieter than the current drives on the market.

In a round-a-about way my intent was to check out on some forums, for users that have been caught like myself in the red ring of death, problem, for this I got sidetracked.

Here are some links so you can see the new innards of the 'Falcon' consoles, many mention that most of the Halo 3 special edition 360 consoles are falcons, sweet, though I wouldn't treat this as gospel, to be fair.

Xbox 360 Forum, here they show you how you can see, without opening the box in store if the box is a falcon unit or not. As it shows you who assembled the console. This means it could be the falcon that you need.

Llamma.com will help you to check your existing console to see if it has the new quieter Ben-Q Drive, it has pics to which will help too, neat.
